P177Q

The Robin Sue Ward School

P177Q is a self-contained special education school that is part of District 75. We educate students, ages 5-21, with autism, emotional, and behavioral challenges. There are 63 classes, with over 500 students. Our programs include: TEACCH, Horticulture, Vocational, and Worksite classes. We have an elementary site at 295Q, and two inclusion sites; Russell Sage I.S. 190 and P.S. 139Q elementary school.

Student Life

P177Q is composed of 63 classes with ages ranging from 5-21 years of age.  Our class ratios are composed of 9:1:3, 12:1:4, 6:1:1, 8:1:1 and 12:1:1 classes.  Our classes are self-contained but also receive classes of art, music, ape(gym), computers/ipads, woodshop, literacy along with science/math and social skills.  As our students reach the age of twelve, we have our students participate in worksites within our school.  Students sixteen and older, who are capable, will participate in community worksites.  Programs such as culinary, school store, clerical and horticulture also prepare our students for future independence.  Our transition coordinator prepares our students and our parents/guardians for our students aging out at the age of 21 years.  Parent and sibling workshops are given on a monthly basis for all of our school's parents/guardians.

Our Mission

Our mission at P.S. 177, Queens is WE DO CARE.  This sums up the “whole family” in our school environment.  We are committed and dedicated to Communicate, Applaud, Research and Educate all of our students, staff, administration, and parents in reaching the “New Standards”.  Our aims are simple yet all encompassing as we struggle to meet the rigorous demand of the new millennium.  We envision this to be an exciting time for our 177 family as we continue to implement W.E. D.O. C.A.R.E. throughout our school.  The following reflects our objectives as we strive to meet the “New Core Standards”.
